Barcelona instead of strengthening its rooster, went on an overdrive to weaken its reinforcements in the Winter Transfer market. Will, it hurt them?

Barcelona fans agree on one thing in particular - that is the incompetence of this Board and management. That aspect was laid bare to the whole world with what transpired in the recently concluded January transfer window. There were expectations of high profile signings even at the very end of it. But those who are keen observer, the reality was too plain to be hidden.

In the end, we were all glad that the window closed. It amounted to torture, especially for Barcelona fans - every day getting linked to anyone available. When it all came to an end, many were relieved that at least Vidal and Rakitic remained in the team!

Two months back, the entire transfer rumors surrounded by the potential departure of Vidal and Rakitic, mainly to Inter Milan. Luckily when it all ended we still have those tow players in the squad. At one point it appeared that we may have to get randomly pick people from the crowd to make the starting eleven; that was the kind of dealings our management was up to.

Barcelona is Struggling to Find Players to Play Now

So Carles Alena, Carles Perez, Abel Ruiz, Jean-Clair Todibo, Moussa Wague all left leaving the first-team squad number at 18 players. I don't think there is any other club with such a low number of players! The situation becomes extremely worrying when you look at options Barcelona has in the first-team squad for various areas.

In offense, Barcelona squad have Saurez, Messi, Dembele, and Griezmann. Now consider this, Luis Saurez is our for the season and Dembele cannot keep himself fit for two straight matches. That means we have technically Messi and Griezmann! Ansu fati has deputized well, but it is ridiculous to expect the youngster to step up for the entire season.

Now imagine a situation where either Messi or Griezmann is injured. Let's don't think about Messi getting injured. If Griezmann himself is not available for two crucial matches, maybe our entire title race and challenges will come to a glorious end. But don't fret, alway remember, Pique started as a striker in La Masia.

In midfield, at least the options look better - Busquets, De Jong, Vidal, Rakitic, Arthur and maybe Sergi Roberto. Now just imagine that the scary scenario of Vidal and Rakitic also not available? Thanks to Setién, that didn't happen. With Rique Puig and Álex Collado deputizing, the squad appears to be better off in midfield.

Don't be so confident, if both De Jong and Busquets are absent, we are done. But then at least we will be able to complete the line-up without borrowing from the opposition team. That's great news!

The defense is better - Alba, Pique, Umtiti, Fripo, Lenglet, Semedo and Roberto provides the strongest part of the squad. The only problem is apart from Umtiti we don't have cover in the center of defense. Can't imagine the likes of Sergi Roberto and Alba appearing in the middle of the defense. But one has to admit, if we get one guy from the B team, the squad will be good in this department. So even though sending Todibo out was stupid, at least it won't hurt us.

Barcelona cannot afford to have Key players down even with fever

Setién will be hoping to draw all the luck he needs to get this depleted squad injury-free till the end of the season. That's practically impossible. If one player trips and falls, he may have to go to the youth teams fro replacements. That's how bad the situation is?

The management failed to read the situation and make a reinforcement. Even if they were not able to, they could have prevented the situation from becoming so bad by not loaning out anyone and everyone, whom they could lay an eye on! Alena transfer was non-sensical, and with Dembele kind of permanently injured the absence of Perez is going to be felt.

It appears there is a serious deficit of working brains in the Barcelona management at the moment. They don't know how to get things done. The only thing they know is how to make unnecessary noise and shoot themselves on the foot. Are they purposefully doing this?
