Football, or soccer for our overseas readers, is the most popular sport in the world. Affectionately referred to the ‘Beautiful Game’, football is enjoyed in countries all over the globe. There are, without doubt, some truly amazing football teams now competing in various leagues and tournaments. When it comes to the top 3 teams in the world, however, the vast majority of you reading this would surely agree that FC Barcelona are definitely up there.

Barcelona, along with Real Madrid, are probably considered one of the top 2 teams in Spain, and they have been dominating La Liga, the Champions League, and other tournaments such as the Copa Del Rey, for many, many decades now. As we slowly come close to bringing 2019 to an end, let’s now look at the prospects for Barcelona for 2020 and beyond.

Real Madrid was clearly the better side on the pitch at the Camp Nou but was unable to make that decisive touch to take home that edge. Barcelona meanwhile played second fiddle, as expected under Valverde.

Barcelona Holds a Resurgent Real Madrid to Draw at Home

FC Barcelona - 0 | Real Madrid - 0

In the end the results barely surprised anyone. This was the first goalless draw in a Clasico in 17 years, and that match was at least more significant. It was the return of the traitor 'Luis Figo' to Camp Nou, a match that will be remembered for the 'Pig Head'!

Sid Lowe suggested that the players could have been distracted by the Protest happening outside and that would have been one of the reasons why the match ended in a stalemate. I don't know about Madrid players, but our players were clearly not distracted, they played exactly the way they are supposed to play under 'The Great Fool' Ernesto Valverde. That's for sure!

Despite all the struggles they faced this season, Barcelona have been quite formidable at home, thanks to one guy named 'Lionel Messi'. Will that be enough for them to trump Real Madrid tonight?

Barcelona Starts as Favourites in the First Clasico of the Season

Real Madrid and Barcelona had more or less a similar kind of season so far. They struggled together, showed glimpses of improving at times, then in the very next match they dashed all those hopes. Valverde's Barcelona lies top of the table courtesy of the goal difference and assisted by Real Madrid with their inconsistency in no less measure.

So When a Barcelona who is being coached by a clueless Valverde and an inconsistent Real Madrid collide tonight at the Camp Nou, everything is up for the grabs. Barcelona would start as a slight favorite due to the home advantage and also having Messi in their ranks. But the game is well balanced due to their defensive fragility!

Barcelona has been handed another Italian test in the UEFA Champions League 2019-20 first knockout stage.

FC Barcelona will be facing Italian side Napoli in the UEFA Champions League 2019-20 first knock-out stage. The draw is considered a favorable one for Barcelona, despite the fact that the Italian side made life difficult for Liverpool already this season. Having the second leg at home is a definite advantage for Barcelona.

The first leg will be played at the Stadio San Paolo on the 26th of February 2020. The second leg will be held at the Camp Nou on the 18th of March.

Under Valverde, Barcelona has become virtually unrecognizable. All that you have associated with the club has been long gone and forgotten! What will be left of the club footballing philosophy when he leaves?

Once again, for the umpteenth time we struggled away from home. Once again we escaped the clutches of defeat and going below Real Madrid in the league table. That was courtesy of their arch-rivals, who failed to take advantage of Barcelona's slip up. They needed a late goal inspired by Courtois to remain salvage a point against Valencia.

Barcelona's 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad came as no surprise. San Sebastian is not an easy stadium for us to visit, it's a bullfight arena for us, and that's been the case when we were playing really well. So we were supposed to struggle at San Sebastian, and struggle we did!

Ernesto Valverde himself may have lost count of the number of times Lionel Messi and Ter Stegan have saved him this season. Valverde might be offering secret prayers to these two; nothing else explains him still having this Job!

So, Barcelona won against Atletico; nothing new there. It was a routine victory. Happened exactly the same way we have faced the majority of the top teams this season, especially away from home. We were second best in practically everything, barring two - having the Best Player in the World and also the Best Goal Keeper in the World.

Some of those saves, Ter Stegan has done were literally mind-blowing. It bordered the thin line between fantasy and reality. And then, Messi! What else you could say? He did what he always does, win Barcelona the match!

As all the pre-ceremony rumours indicated, Lionel Messi picked up his Sixth Ballon D'Or Award at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France.

Barcelona and Argentinian Captain, Lionel Messi was crowned the 2019 Ballon D'Or Award winner in the Gala Night held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. With this victory, he has moved one ahead of his arch-rival Ronaldo in the number of Ballon d'Or. He has now won a record sixth Ballon D'Or and is the leader of the pack now.

This Ballon D'Or comes after almost four years. His last victory was in 2015, a year Barcelona won the treble. Liverpool's Vin Dijk came second and Cristiano Ronaldo came third (for reasons unknown).
