It appears Barcelona will be finally making Rodrigo their priority signing in the winter market. His signing in all probability will be announced by the end of the day.
FC Barcelona quest for a replacement striker for the injured Luis Saurez appears to have found his logical conclusion with Rodrigo Moreno Machado. He was heavily involved with Barcelona since the opening of the winter transfer window. Once Quique Setién confirmed that he would sign a striker, his name was the most linked one.
In the match between Valencia and Barcelona at the weekend, all the attention was focussed on one person and that's Rodrigo himself. He definitely impressed Barcelona that day.
Rodrigo's Familiarity with La Liga makes him The Ideal Choice
In my previous post, I mentioned why I though Ben Yedder would be the choice over Rodrigo. That assumption was mainly based on that Rodrigo could be cup-tied in Europe. That information was wrong as UEFA has removed cup-tied rules. That suddenly makes Rodrigo a better choice than Ben Yedder.
Rodrigo's familiarity with the way Barcelona play and generic challenges of the League may have won the opportunity. Out of all the choices, he may be the aptest player to immediately adapt. Rather than being a big signing, he will definitely keep everyone from Dembele to Fati on their feet.
Rodrigo could be someone who could play the Setién was quite easy. He is not someone who scores plenty of goals but will be a handy option who could come off the bench and make an impact. The last two matches showed Barcelona is lacking on that front. He is a fighter to the core and Setién would definitely love to have him.
Questions could be asked whether Rodrigo was a better signing option than Ben Yedder. That needs to be seen. One factor is for sure that the 80 Million price tag for Ben Yedder was evaluated as a tad too pricy by the management. And it makes sense. We don't need to spend 80 Million now and then anyways we have to make a marquee signing in the summer.
