Barcelona secured a brilliant victory over Villareall away froom home and that too with a majestic performance, a rare combination these days. In the Grand scheme of things, will this even matter?

Barca - 4 | Villareal - 1

FC Barcelona scored a vital 4-1 victory away from home against Villareal, a rarity these days! If the final scoreline was a rarity, the quality of the football on display was even more. I can't even recall the last time we saw such a brilliant performance from this Barcelona side away from home.

Despite the quality on display, this may have arrived a tad too late for Barcelona's title prospects. Real Madrid now lies four points ahead and once again with help of dubious VAR decision. The chances of them slipping appears very rare, or is it safe to say the chances of the referees and the League allowing them to slip is pretty rare.

The Formation played a Huge part in Barcelona's solid Display

I have to be honest and admit that when I saw the line-up, I assumed everything will be going south from word go. But that didn't happen and certainly was because of the tactical formation Quique Setién chose. In a normal scenario, a three men midfield which has Sergi Roberto and Vidal offer no control. But then Setién surprised all with the formation he chose. And that played a huge role.

Setién went with a 4-3-1-2 formation with Messi lying behind both Saurez and Griezmann. That meant that we always had one person more in midfield and that freed Sergi Roberto who was brilliant in the midfielder role on the left. Choice of Vidal could be debated, but then he is one player Setién trusts like anything.

Even though the opener came from an own goal, the move that preceded it set the tone. An early opener settled the nerves. But as we saw on many occasions this season, we gave away that lead with some pathetic defending.

To the credit of the players, that goal didn't bother them much as they went ahead and restored the lead. The goals from Saurez and Griezmann showed the class of the two strikers we have in the squad.

Even though Messi couldn't score, and saw one of his goals chalked off due to a presumable offside on the build-up, the little magician was in great form organizing the play. Ansu fati completed the fourth and along with Puig once again displayed the enormous talent they have. It's very evident that the next season will be crucial for these two youngsters.
