Andres Iniesta in Deportivo vs Barca Match

- Andres Iniesta surrounded by Deportivo Players -

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back. -

It didn't last too long! the Euphoria related to the amazing come back against PSG. There is something with visit to Galacian Club this season with Barca. The last time we lost in La Liga was against another Galacian Club, Celta Vigo back in October. But this lose against Deportivo could have a huge impact on the La Liga race. In recent weeks with Real Madrid stumbling we have made spectacular come back in to the title race and now we have once again taken it out of our hands. Real Madrid who defeated Real Betis after our loss, had regained the top spot and have a two point lead at top with one game in hand. Which means they could be five points ahead once the extra-match has been played and that means even if we win all our remaining matches we may still fall short.

As I wrote in my last post, the tremendous come-back against PSG had a lot to do with the desire of the players. But this match was different. The team was careless and complacent in their approach. This was a match against the league leaders and a team which is trying to fight off relegation battle. For some reason the attitude of players gave a feeling that they all thought they just had to turn up to win this match. The tactics and line-up didn't help the players at all. There was need for some players to be rested but shouldn't we rest Rakitic and Iniesta together! That was the question in all of our mind after this defeat. Neymar, the hero of midweek was ineligible for this match but still we went with a 3-4-3 formation with Mascherano, Pique and Alba in defense; Busquets, Sergio Roberto, Dennis Saurez and Sergi Gomes in midfield; Saurez, Messi and Arda up front.

We went with a 3-4-3 as in PSG but most of the players had no idea of what position they should occupy. I wasn't sure Dennis Saurez and Sergio Roberto had not much idea about where they should play. They tried but the team structure was more or less resembling chaos. The two goals again us came from Set-pieces but more or less came from individual mistake from first from Ter Stegan and the second from Jordi Alba. But the failure of defense in defending set pieces is another new worry for Luis Enrique at this point. The equalizer came just after the break with an opportunistic Luis Saurez showing his skill. But then on we were pretty bad with build up play.

The players performance were all below par in this match. After the performance against PSG we expected a dip. But this was complete opposite of the mid-week match. Lionel Messi was performing extremely below par and many times looked least interested. The midfield combination of Sergi, Roberto, Dennis all failed. The only plus point for me was Busquets performance which had improved a bit by his season's standard.
