Lionel Messi showed to the world once again Why he is considered "One of the Greatest of All Time" helping FC Barcelona secure their second title of the season. With this title victory Barca stay on course for a history repeating treble success. I don't think there has been ever an instance in Europe where two teams meeting at the final of UEFA Champions League are both with a chance to complete a historic treble. On a night which was the last appearance of one of the greatest midfielder produced by Barcelona and Spain at the Camp Nou, a bigger talent stole the show on the field. The first goal Lionel Messi scored will be remembered for ever as one of the greatest in a cup final. It wasn't like teh other two goals war simple ones, they were beautiful. But this was something else! Totally Diferent!
The only doubt at the start of the final was whether Saurez will be fit enough to start. That all worries were erased once the starting line-up came up. Barcelona lined up with their strongest eleven - Ter Stegan, Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Alba, Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta, Messi, Saurez and Neymar. The game started as expected when it comes to clash with Atletic Bilbao - tight and tough. But slowly Lionel Messi started to weave his magic. The first instance we saw was whne Lionel Messi produced that trademark over the top dinked ball to Neymar who finsihed brilliantly but unfortunately was ruled offside. Then in the 12th minute Saurez forced a brilliant save from a tight angle from Atletic keeper Iago. Then in the 20th minute Lionel Messi decided to take the game by its throat and kill it. That goal was surely a killer one. I am not going to try to describe it because It's impossible.I don't know that many adjective to properly describe it. What you can do is see it and add your explisite filled adjectives.
To put it simply Messi beat four players, one guy twice to put Barca 1-0 up. That goal killed the Atletic Bilabo spirits. They struggled the rest of the half. Barca created more chances with Neymar and Pique going close to double the lead. Then in th minute Neymar made it 2-0 after tapping in the ball at an open goal. The build up to that goal was simply sensational. Messi and Rakitic combined together before involving Saurez who squared the ball to Neymar. The half ended with Messi testing the keeper again from a free kick.
Bilbao put up a spirited fight back in the second half. They were tryting to force the issue with their pressing and looked more creative in their build up. But the game was ended as a contest in the 74th minute by Lionel Messi who like a professional thief got in between the backline before turning the ball in to the net. Bilbao pulled one goal back within 5 minutes but that was the only positive they had in the game. Barca made sure that the Bilbao never had a sniff of chance later and their frustration was shown at the end when they got agitated by a Neymar's showboating. It was baffling to see the referee not sending off Bilbao players involved in the scuffle. But then we didn't care much as we had a celebration in line.
