  • Lionel Messi scored twice and assisted the other goal in 3-0 victory against Bayern Munich.
  • Victory against Bayern Munich almost put Barca in to the Finals

I ran across the living room, struggling to keep my voice down, kept runinng in circles and circles; just to digest what I witnessed in the second goal Messi scored. To be fair, like Luis Enrique said he don't surprise us much. Whatever he does is pretty ussual for him, he has done the dink over the keeper a hundred time in the past. But this felt different and there is some real good reason behind that too. Will come to that later! So, what happened! In a match which was billed as the clash between the top two sides in Europe - One guy emerged as the king maker scoring two goals and creating another. A 3-0 scoreline in favour of Barca was something of a wish for Cules for sometime; but I am pretty sure that none of us never said that out loud. If you had done that, I am pretty sure questions might have been raised about your mental health by now. The match went goalless till the 77th minute, when all of a sudden Lionel Messi decided to show why on Earth he is "The Best Player in the World".

It wasn't like he was quite till that time; he was far from quiet. But at 77th minute after seeing his colleagues waste gilt edged chances he created for them - Lionel Messi decided to take it upon himself to write the outcome of the match. It all startedby Dani Alves on the right - he stole the ball from Bayern while they were transitioning from defense to offense, then skipped past Alonso and then gave the ball to Messi. Messi who was stationed outside the box, skipped inside and unleashed a ferocious shot beating Neuer on his near post. The sheer force in the shot beat the "Best Goal Keeper in the World" and his reaction showed the sheer surrender he had to face. That goal was more or like the one he scored in Wembley against Manchester United. Within three minutes Messi doubled the lead this time with some outrageous skill. Rakitic found Messi 30 yards out on the right, he moved in to the box with Boateng keeping him company; and then in a sheer moment of madness he shuffled past Boateng who turned and fell in his backside and dunked the ball past an on rushing Neuer.

That goal was sheer vengeance of Messi to what Neuer did to his free kick in the first half. Neuer plucked the ball off a well taken Messi free kick just like a walk in the park and I am sure he was eager to show the German who the real boss was. The match started in unexpected fashion due to the tactics employed by Guardiola. He went with a 3-4-3 formation, something even unthinkable against Barca especially at Camp Nou. The result was terrific, Barca tore apart teh high line Bayern held with little difficulty. In the 12th minute Lionel Messi released Saurez with an over the top ball straight on goal, but the strikers effort was brilliantly save by Neuer. In two minutes it was the time for Saurez to be the creator. He skipped past two defenders in the box before sending in the cross to the center, Neymar met the cross but his goal bound shot was deflected wide by the last man on the line. In the 18th minute Lewandowski came close to giving Bayern the lead in what was the only clear cut chance they created the whole night.

The match was being played ta frantic pace with both the teams fighting for possession. After the break Bayern managed to control the proceedings better than us with no end result. And the game was heading towards a draw till the ball reached Messi in the 77th minute. With a goal down Bayern was shaken and that basically resulted in the chance that led to Messi's wonder strike. At 2-0 Bayern needed a lifeline and was going a bit frantic searching for the away goal. That backfired, when Saurez held himself well under enormous challenge on a counter attack, he gave the ball to Messi who timed the perfect ball releasing Neymar straight on goal and this time Neymar made no mistake. At 3-0 we could say Barca have one foot placed firmly on Berlin. The return leg will take place next Tuesday, but unless we screw up things royally that could be a mere formality.
