It may appear too dramatic to term what's going on in and around the team as a 'Footballing Crisis'. But for those who have been following the team for years, this has been nothing short of a 'Crisis of Identity'. For many, it has become so difficult even to understand the kind of football we are playing. It has no resemblance to what we knew and what we were known for.
Gone are those days of 'Tiki-Taka'! Forget 'tiki-taka', these are the days when we are forced to applause if the team is about to place four or more passes in the attacking third. The immense pressing game in not be seen, in fact, that's what opposition regularly employs against us and we just self-destruct. That's a tale of 'A Taste of Your Own medicine'.
As someone recently said on social media, the biggest achievement of Lionel Messi in a Barcelona shirt has to be the back to back La Liga title victory with Valverde in charge. It was he who actually made the difference in the last season, and he did work his magic in Europe also but only to be outdone by his coach. At this moment, he should be banging his head on his decision to back the manager.
When Board decided to continue with Valverde, many of us felt that it will come to haunt us in Europe. The usual belief was that Messi alone will once again cover up Valverde's stupidity in League. But in Europe, it will be too much for him.
But the absence of Messi at the start of the season, clearly brought the crisis forward. And as expected, Valverde appears absolutely inept to solve anything here. I don't think he realizes what's going around him. He is just going through the motions. He would be hoping for Messi to start working his magic against Villareal midweek.
He knows one thing, that's to ride on Messi's shoulder. The players have shown in the break that they prefer him, as he allows them to do whatever they want.
