It's Lyon! Barcelona to Face French Side in Champions League.

The Wait is over, it's Olympique Lyonnais whom Barcelona Football Club will face in the first knockout round of Champions League 2018-19 season. Even though Schalke was my preferred opposition, Lyon is not a bad opponent to face at this stage. Barcelona unless screws things seriously, they are highly rated to go through the next round.

Lyon currently lies third in the Ligue 1, almost 13 points adrift of the League leaders PSG. The first leg will be held on the 19th of February in Lyon. Barcelona has the advantage of playing the second leg at home, on the 13th of March.

Barcelona had One of the Easiest Pairing

One have to admit that, Barcelona have received a favorable pairing in this round, something which is usually alien for use in recent seasons. Some fans would have preferred a much tougher test, just to gauge the level of our team. I would say it's better to take it slow!

The last time we met Lyon was in the same stage in the Champions League in the famous 2008-09 season when we won the Champions League under Guardiola. The first leg of that match ended a 1-1 draw, but Barcelona destroyed Lyon 5-2 in return leg at Camp Nou. Lionel Messi did score in the second leg of that match. In total Barcelona has played Lyon six time, winning four and drawing the other two.

The Pre-Quarter features a host of Mouth Watering Contest

There is quite some finger licking contest at this stage this season. The pick of them have to be Atl├ętico Madrid vs Juventus, Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool vs Bayern Munich, and Manchester United vs Paris St-Germain. These are going to be the toughest matches of these rounds.

The other matches are Schalke vs Manchester City, Roma vs Porto, and Ajax vs Real Madrid. Out of these Manchester City, Roma and Real Madrid are clear favorites to go through.
