Barcelona may have lost Neymar in the summer transfer window, but the Blaugrana are showing no signs of missing the Brazil international forward at the moment. Barca are four points clear at the top of La Liga after 11 rounds of matches and eight ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid. Ernesto Valverde’s side are at the top of Champions League Group D and are playing pretty decent football. Neymar who?

However, it is unlikely that the Barcelona chiefs are going to get carried away. After all, it is only November, and a lot of twists and turns are going to happen over the course of the season. Barca have been lucky with injuries so far this season, but things could change in the coming weeks and months. Valencia are going nowhere, while Real Madrid are only going to get better, and in Europe, the English clubs are back with a bang, making the Champions League very tough to win this season, although those who offer football tips would find enticing to back them to win the Champions League at odds of 7/1 given their recent history in the competition. It would make sense for the Spanish giants to delve into the January transfer window and strengthen their squad for the second half of the 2017-18 campaign. After all,

Barcelona were strongly linked with Philippe Coutinho in the summer transfer window, and they could very well return for the Liverpool attacking midfielder in January. Liverpool may have resisted their attempts to snap up the Brazil international, but lightning does not strike twice. With the Reds pretty much out of the Premier League title race and unlikely to win the Champions League this season, Coutinho could be more vehement in his desire to swap Anfield for Camp Nou in January, if indeed Barcelona make an offer.

Of course, Barcelona will have to make a massive offer for Liverpool to consider selling arguably their most talented player. Barca could actually hold an advantage and force Liverpool's hands. Paris Saint-Germain star Angel di Maria is also claimed to be on Barcelona’s radar, and if the Blaugrana cannot get Coutinho, then they could well move for the former Real Madrid star. If Barca sign the 29-year-old winger, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder in January, then the Spanish giants would not have any need to pursue Coutinho next summer.

For Coutinho, who has scored two goals and provided two assists in the Champions League and has scored two goals and provided one assist in the Premier League so far this season, to join Barcelona, the player himself has to take some initiatives. The problem is that there is nothing more that the 25-year-old can do that he did not in the summer. His transfer request was rejected and he was also left out of the team for a while. With the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia just a few months away, Coutinho simply cannot afford to be ostracised from the team and spend time on the substitutes’ bench.
