The fact that Andoni Zubizarreta managed to stay as FC Barcelona's Director of Football was the biggest joke played on the fans for sometime. Some may argue that the board itself is a bigger joke, we will come to that later! This didn't come as a surprise to many. From the time we went to CAS fro appeal against transfer ban, there were hints that Andoni Zubizarreta would be made a scapegoat if the decision went against the club. The decision went against us and we have our Official Scapegoat. The Board members clearly knows that sacking him helps them to stick to their job for more time, a job for which they have no respect. I am not arguing that Zubizarreta should not have been sacked, I believed firmly that he should have been sacked long ago (Does Andoni Zubizarreta deserves to be Barca's Sporting Director?). I have argued for his sacking a year ago. He was the biggest joke played on Barca fans for sometime. No one had been rewarded like him for simply "Sleeping on the Job" in the history of the Club or even Football in general.
But sacking him just after the CAS decision was a calculated move by the Board. It gets them out of the hook. The official reason given by the Board was that the Sporting Director failed to Strengthen the team for the coming season, especially with the Ban in place. But then why sack him now? He should have sacked when the Summer Transfer window officially ended? Isn't the same Board which said we did reinforce adequately for the season earlier (When we were crying out saying that we need to buy for two seasons rather than one). The truth simply is that the Board does not want the fans to see the truth that its action lead to the scenario where Barca currently are. And that clearly include not firing Zubizarreta at the end of last season when it was clear that his inability to sign defenders were hurting the team. But then Zubi was Rosell's pet pick and how can the dummy board go against him? Zubizarreta was simply obeying his ultimate master's command to the fullest. In my last post I mentioned some good will come out of each crisis. In that sense Zubizarreta's sacking was one of them. But to clean the system and get the club back on track we need to get the Board booted out. There are signs of pressure of that growing. But then the Board already is planning there next move. There are hint that the Board has given some kind of Ultimatum to Luis Enrique. May be they have identified the next scapegoat.
