Against all odds Roma pulled off the seemingly impossible task by knocking out FC Barcelona with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over the visitors at home.

For the 3rd Season in succession, FC Barcelona was knocked out of the Quarter-Final stage in UEFA Champions League. Now that's a seriously dangerous pattern which needs to be addressed soon. All of us believed that Barcelona had the tie rapped up after the 4-1 victory at the Camp Nou.

But a combination of complacency and tactical mistakes from the Manager resulted in Barca being at the receiving end of a wonderful come back once again at this stage of the tournament. Now they may have to once again watch from sidelines their biggest rivals (who despite the hiccup against Juventus) script another glorious chapter in European Football.

Lionel Messi scored two goals and created the other one in a 3-0 demolition of Chelsea securing a record 11th Consecutive Quarter Final appearance in UEFA Champions League.

Lionel Messi celebrating Scoring against Chelsea

Lionel Messi, once again was the difference maker for Barca in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League 2017-18 Pre-Quarter Knockout tie. The little Argentinian scored two goals and created the other one in a very efficient 3-0 victory against Chelsea. In the process he became the second player in UEFA Champions League history to score 100 goals. The 3-0 scoreline may give a picture of the match being too comfortable; but this match was like the Atletico match where we were made to suffer; may be a lot more than Atletico. But like against Atletico, we clearly shut down Chelsea from making anything much of the game.

Lionel Messi proved to be the deciding factor in FC Barcelona's 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid which takes them eight points clear on top. This wasn't a match were Barca tore apart their opposition in sensational fashion; but instead this was a macth where Barca simply shut every option for their opposition, that too one of the most in form team in Europe.

FC Barcelona moved eight points clear of Atletico with a 1-0 victory at Camp Nou

Lionel Messi once again maybe for the umpteenth time decided the outcome of the match between first and second in the League; and he may also have decided the fate of the league too. With eleven games to go, that may be too early but it's safe to say that Barca will not let go off this lead that easily. And also with this victory, FC Barcelona may have stopped the momentum which Atletico was building up in recent matches. This also was a statement to the whole world, about this Barca side's pedigree and determination. This wasn't a match were Barca tore apart their opposition in sensational fashion; but instead this was a match where Barca simply shut every option for their opposition, that too one of the most in form team in Europe. The only bad part of the match was Iniesta's hamstring injury, which will see him missing the Chelsea second leg for sure!

Barcelona Football Club would be happy to secure a vital away goal at the Stamford Bridge in the 1st Leg of the UEFA Champions League tie against Chelsea. Lionel Messi scored the equalizer for Barca, which was his first goal against Chelsea in nine outings.

This season has been so far pretty good for Lionel Messi. He has been ticking away some of his unchecked items from his list since the start of the season. The best match of Barca so far this season has been the victory against Juventus. Messi never scored against Buffon in his career and he ticked away that. To the build up of last night's encounter against Chelsea, a lot of people were asking the sensational question 'Will Messi Score against Chelsea?' Some times it gets to the point of being absolutely ridiculous, where some people and pundits will hold it against him every time he puts in a good performance. So finally he got that box also ticked out; he scored the very important away goal which equalized the scoreline for Barca and also made good of not so efficient performance.

FC Barcelona return to winning ways after two consecutive draws with a tough fought victory against Eibar. Goals from Luis Saurez and Jordi Alba secured the victory.

Luis saurez scored for Barca in their victory against Eibar. The 2-0 victory got Barca back to winning ways

Barcelona Futbol Club was made to suffer in their 2-0 victory against Eibar away from Home. If you have to describe this victory, there is only one word which describes the same "EFFICIENT"! There is nothing else other than that. For majority of the game we were outplayed in our own game. The wet pitch and it's narrow width completely negated us; but the major factors were the Eibar players and their attitude to the game. They actually played without no fear and that showed on the field.

FC Barcelona was held to a goalless draw by Getafe at the Camp Nou in a very frustrating evening.

Barcelona Futbol Club was made to suffer for a second consecutive match in La Liga with a very frustrating encounter against Getafe at Camp Nou. In my preview to Copa Del Rey Semi-Final 2nd Leg, I have mentioned how opponents have failed to stop us from scoring in the league. I never expected we will lose it so soon. With the second draw in a row, Barca's lead on top have come down to seven points; it's still sizable but when you consider that the lead has come down from eleven to seven in a span of a week, something starts to worry me a lot!

A late equaliser from Gerard Pique has helped FC Barcelona to continue their unbeaten run in the league. With this draw Valverde's Barca have created a new record for unbeaten run from start.

A late equaliser from the 'Controversy Man' Gerard Pique gave Barca a much valued draw; which actually tasted like a victory considering the backdrop to the game and the conditions the team have to encounter. There was much at stake when we approached the end of the game - at danger was the record and the perfect start to the league which have made. FC Barcelona had already equaled the best start to a League season and this was a chance to create a new history; and that was under threat.

In a pitch which resembled a swimming pool at times, this game was completely poised against FC Barcelona. They could not play anything which resembles their style in this pitch and needed a 'Hero to Save the Day'. And in stepped Pique, who had been involved in every thing related to Espanyol recently, to save Barca's unbeaten run and silence the entire stadium.

FC Barcelona secured the passage to Semi Final of 2017-18 Copa Del Rey Semi-Finals with a 2-0 victory over city rivals Espanyol at the Camp Nou. Luis Saurez and Lionel Messi both scored early in first half to help Barca over-turn the 1-0 deficit from first leg.

Lionel Messi scored the decisive goal which took Barca past Espanyol securing semi-final place in Copa Del Rey 2017-18

FC Barcelona have secured the semi-final spot in Copa Del Rey semi-finals with a 2-0 victory with an efficient performance at the Camp Nou over city rivals Espanyol. Any doubt of Barca's progress was put to rest when Luis Saurez scored early on the first half negating the opponents advantage from first leg. As I mentioned in the Barca vs Espanyol Preview, the early goal completely changed the tie to Barca's advantage and Lionel Messi's goal secured the victory and passage. Everyone expected Barca to seal the victory with at least one more goal but that wasn't to be and that made for a nervous ending when it was clear a goal from Espanyol means we will go out on away goals. But then our defense never gave a decent sniff to Espanyol's offense even though our forwards were wasting chances after chances.

Lionel Messi and Luis Saurez scored twice in Barca's 5-0 victory over Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarín stadium. Luis Saurez has now scored in seven consecutive match in the league and he is still far from firing on all cylinders.

Barcelona Futbol Club players have not let down their intensity so far in the league despite everyone of their challengers falling behind. It was a weekend where the second placed Atletico Madrid dropped points when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona. But that never made Barca players complacent, instead they saw their chance to increase their lead at top to eleven points. The current lead if sustained will be enough to win Barca the title before Real Madrid visit Camp Nou later this season. That should act as a motivation for the players!

Luis Saurez, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal scored for Barca against Real Madrid to take Barca fourteen points clear of their arch-rival.

Barca Players Celebrating scoring against Real Madrid in 3-0 victory at the Santiago Bernebeu

Barca kept on their emphatic success streak in La Liga with a 3-0 thumping of their arch-rivals and defending Champions Real Madrid at their own home ground. This was never supposed to be the script which Real Madrid fans and most of the pundits wrote. This was supposed to be a "White Christmas"! The stadium was ready for it; they were presented the World Club Title and this was supposed to be a grand celebration party. But Barcelona boys just gate crashed it - not only destroying the party atmosphere but definitely the team spirits and along with it mostly the title hopes. This is the third consecutive victorious visit of Barca at the Santiago Bernebeu, a rare feat by all measures! With this victory Barca have moved fourteen points clear of defending Champions, Real Madrid and nine points clear of second placed Atletico Madrid. That's a huge lead especially when we are not even at half-way of the league. Barca now go to the winter break with serious momentum behind them.

Lionel Messi against Real Madrid

- Lionel Messi Celebrating Scoring the Winner against Real Madrid -

I think the great thing about Leo is that he continues to surprise. After so many years he is still decisive. Andres Iniesta

Lionel Messi once again proved why he is still considered the Best in the World. This was a must win game for Barca, lose this the title officially goes to Real Madrid. With this last minute victory FC Barcelona stays alive in the title race. This edition of the El Clasico was expected to a fiery encounter. It lived up to it's billing; with the pendulum swing in opposite direction every 15 minutes. When James Rodriguez equaliser came in the 86th minute, all hopes for staying alive in La Liga ended for each one of us; but there was time for a last twist; that too with the very last kick of the match. In essence this match was a battle between Lionel Messi and Real Madrid and it ended with him leaving a definitive mark with his 500th Goal for the Club. What a time to bring up your 500th!

- Luis Saurez and Kameni in Malaga vs Barca Clash -

Defeat against Malaga? I don’t know if it is a step back but it is a missed opportunity. Andres Iniesta

There is no way I can describe the feeling that is running through my mind properly. I waited for a whole dayto cool down but still am fuming. How many times, how many bloody times? This has been the script of the whole season; Real Madrid is still on top of the league just because we don't take our chances when they slip up. Instead we go and slip further! Two weeks back when I was looking at the fixture list; for me this was one of the biggest week. This was the perfect chance for us to take the destiny of the league back in our hands. This was the week of the Madrid derby. Madrid has not been playing spectacularly but they were always finding heroes to bail them out. But I did expect that luck to run out against their City rivals. And run out it did. Their draw against Atletico was sheer misfortune; nevertheless it was a great chance for us to move to top of league and cut the deficit out. Instead we ended up like this!

Andres Iniesta in Deportivo vs Barca Match

- Andres Iniesta surrounded by Deportivo Players -

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back. -

It didn't last too long! the Euphoria related to the amazing come back against PSG. There is something with visit to Galacian Club this season with Barca. The last time we lost in La Liga was against another Galacian Club, Celta Vigo back in October. But this lose against Deportivo could have a huge impact on the La Liga race. In recent weeks with Real Madrid stumbling we have made spectacular come back in to the title race and now we have once again taken it out of our hands. Real Madrid who defeated Real Betis after our loss, had regained the top spot and have a two point lead at top with one game in hand. Which means they could be five points ahead once the extra-match has been played and that means even if we win all our remaining matches we may still fall short.

Barca Players Celebrating Sergi Roberto Winner

- Barca Players surrounding Sergi Roberto after scoring Winner -

A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. Colin Powell

This was the night of fairy tale stuff at the Camp Nou. FC Barcelona players staged the greatest comeback in European Cup Competition history to overturn a 4-0 first leg deficit to PSG. They had to do it twice in the same night; they almost did it in the first hour of the match and when all hopes were ending they did it all again in the last eight minutes. This night was all of hope and determination. We started with hope; then it turned to expectation just after half time when the scoreline read 3-0; soon it turned to despair when Cavani scored the all important away goal. But the players never stopped believing; they regained hope soon after and with three minutes of normal time left and needing three goals they exactly did that; against all odds!

Lionel Messi against Atletico Madrid in Copa Del Rey Semi-Final

- Lionel Messi running past Atletico Defenders -

Barcelona Football Club took a giant step in securing a place in the final of the Copa Del Rey 2016-17 with a brilliant 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid away from home. The clash at the Vicente Calderon arena was decided in favour of FC Barcelona by two brilliant goals from Barca's two top scorers this season - Luis Saurez and Lionel Messi. Barca went 2-0 up by around half an hour in to the clock before Greizman reduced the deficit in the second half. The tie is very interestingly poised with Barca in the front street after securing a first leg victory and also two away goal advantage. Barca could afford to lose the return leg 1-0 and still make the final courtesy of those two sensational away goals. The fun part of all it is that Mascherano and Rakitic are awarded the assists for those goals when their contribution was nothing less than minimal. We will come to that later.

Iniesta surrounded by Real Madrid players in El Clasico

- Andres Iniesta with the Ball Playing against Real Madrid -

This result is hard to take after such a great effort. I am happy to be back and for our fans. Together, we march on!Andres Iniesta

Recently El Clasico's never failed to entertain and without much doubt has been one of the most entertaining encounters between top sides in Europe. Usually when two top sides clash in any league in Europe, it usually would be a very cagey match with very much less excitement and too much intensity. But Clasico's usually is quite different in terms footballing skills and entertainment. Last night encounter was a disgrace to that tradition. It resembled the usual ManU vs Chelsea matches we have seen over the years rather that the Barca vs Madrid match. I have never seen a Clasico match filled with so much mistakes; mistakes from both sides. In the end no one emerged victorious but - Real Madrid have emerged victorious with a last minute equalizer when we take the whole picture who retained their six point lead on top of the league.

Messi Scoring the Equalizer against Real Sociedad

- Messi Scoring the Equalizer against real Soceidad -

Almost nothing went right for us today. They outdid us in the quality of their play and in attitude. We barely existed in the first half and improved a bit in the second but it’s difficult to win the league playing like this.Gerard Pique

This was nothing short of "The Great Escape" act by Houdini courtesy of the linesman. There is no other explanation of how we ended up from the trip to Anoeta with a point not with a destruction in terms of result. One may have to look at the upcoming Clasico to see whether the Great Escape Act actually helped or the gruesome experience of Yesternight has left a huge psychological scar on them. Regardless of all these with this draw Barca find themselves six points behind league leaders heading into the Clasico. Which makes that a must win game now. Usually when we fail in a match we as fans are used to holding on to any positives you could find. Hours have passed after the match I am still looking for one, the closest I got is that we had officially 47.7% of possession. For some reason as a person who watched this match; I can't get my head around that number - we barely had a possession and 47.7% of it; no way!

Iniesta surrounded by Celta Vigo Players during FC Barcelona's defeat away from Home

Recklessness at its very best, that should be the phrase that could very accurately describe last nights' display by FC Barcelona at the Estadio de Balaídos against Celta de Vigo. The question is who was more reckless - A completely out of sync team, a non-existing midfield, a defensive midfielder who played like he is on the wrong team, a goal keeper who is finding fresh ideas to concede goals or a Manager who had no respect for the opposition. Why the respect aspect? Just rewind back what happened here last season - we were decimated even with our almost first eleven here. So when you return to a place where you were destroyed to pieces, you expect the coach to respect the danger of the opposition. Instead Luis Enrique decided to bring in Gomez and Rafinha in place of Rakitic and Iniesta. Result a shabby first half where we were pretty lucky not to have gone 5-0 down. But then the Manager alone cannot be responsible held responsible for the absolute abject recklessness of a Keeper who is considered to be good with his passing. The way he conceded the game when an almighty come back was in progress will send shivers down the management and will prompt the question even more strongly his position is first eleven.

Dec 24, 2015

As I wrote in the preview, this Club World Cup more or less was the emergence of Luis Saurez as one of the leaders of the current Barca side. Till this competition, he was more or less the lesser one of the great attacking trio. But the Uruguayan's performance showed that he still is very much the World's best striker, exactly as he shown earlier with Liverpool and Ajax. If it was not for Lionel Messi and Neymar, his partners in crime; he would definitely would have considered as the "Best Player fo the Game at the Moment". We have seen his Game Winner style earlier, but this tournament showed that he could emerge as a true leader to this outstanding footballing side. With Messi and Neymar around he may not be the No.1 player (that would be always Messi) but he knows that together with them he present something outstanding to the World; Luckily for him both Messi and Neymar also have recognised it.

  • FC Barcelona produced a sensational display at the Bernabeu tearing apart Real Madrid.
  • Luis Enrique, Neymar and Iniesta scored all the goals for Barcelona..
The solution often turns out more beautiful than the puzzle. Richard Dawkins

Barcelona Futbol Club produced something spectacular last night to destroy Real Madrid at their home Santiago Bernabeu. The scoreline 4-0 never gave an accurate picture of the gulf between two sides on the night. Had all the easy chances been taken, we could have seen a scoreine of 8-2 or something. That how superior Barca was on the night. On a night when Barca's midfield were in total control, two goals from Luis Saurez and each one from Neymar and Iniesta completed the scoreline. Real Madrid produced a late surge after going down 3-0 but Barca's keeper Bravo was in spectacular form denying every chance of Real Madrid. Barca's "Man of the Match" without any doubt was Andres Iniesta, who was given a rare ovation by a lot of Real Madrid faithfuls; something which was never expected taking in to account the bad vibes between the two sides in recent meetings.
