A number of the times I have been forced to eat my word, but I have to admit here that it never happened to me this quickly. In my last post (Preview to Manchester City vs Barca clash) I wrote how City have conceded ground to Chelsea and us have gained in their respective title race. Now with Chelsea dropping point in England and Barca losing in Spain, we may most probably go in to midweek game with no difference in domestic situation for these teams. Funny enough if Manchester City win tonight we may go into the midweek clash with momentum on their side. Now that's what we call the classic example of "Eat your Word". This was a great opportunity for Barca, which sorely they missed. Going into the game it was a great chance for Barca to go ahead of Real Madrid (even though it would have been temporarily). Now not only we have missed such a chance but most probably looking at Real Madrid extending the lead to four points. That would place our fate in the hands of Real Madrid once again.

The decisive moment of the game came in the seventh minute when a horrible Dani Alves' mistake led to Juanmi scoring the only goal of the gave. Barca never recovered from that shock. It is easy to point the fingers at Luis Enrique for not playing the best eleven. But one has to clearly see the whole picture before criticizing the manager. With a trip to England coming midweek, it was not any surprise to see he rested some of the players. But still the line-up was a pretty competent one with the trio of Saurez, Messi and Neymar leading the attack. The midfield consist of Iniesta, Busquets and Rafinha. Now looking that line-up there was no way we could have lost this match. And if they have done, it was all player's fault. After the shock goal, Barca tried their best to get on parity. But their final third play let them down. One of the reason they struggled was due to the brilliant and comatc defending by Malaga.

The players also made it tough on themselves by showing a astounding lack of creativity. We struggled to stretch the pitch, instead we kept on sending crosses after crosses in to the box with no end result. It was late on the game when we managed to stretch the pitch, we were able to create some danger. Unfortunately we never were able to force anything out of the match. Now it would be an ardent task for the players to get back to their A game against City. Against Malaga we may have saw a dress rehearsal of what to expect at Manchester. Hope the players deal with it better.
