- Barca scored a brilliant come back from behind victory against Sevilla away from Home .
- Barcelona over turned the 2-1 deficit with 2 minutes of normal time left.
FC Barcelona over turned a 2-1 deficit in last five minutes to conquer a ten man Sevilla side. Cesc Fabregas scored twice and Villa scored a stoppage time winner to secure three points for Barca. This win put us at 11 points clear off Real madrid as of now but they have a chance to reduce it to eight tomorrow. Sevilla would feel really hard done by some refereeing decisions. First was the sending off of Medel, which I don't think he can complain much about after trying a small head-butt on Cesc Fabregas. It was nothing like Zidane headbutt but still you are not allowed to do those things. The second was a bit more controversial because that lead to the equaliser. In the build up to the second goal, there was a hand ball from Thiago which the referee couldn't spot as it was on his blind side. As I predicted in the Barca vs Sevilla Match previewIt was surprising to see Alexis once again in the official line-up chosen by Vilanova. The Chilean has not been any kind of form lately and he himself acknowledged that. He formed the attacking trio with Pedro and Messi. Tito went with a midfield featuring Cesc, Xavi and Busquets. In the defense we had Alves, Mascherano, Song and Alba. Pinto, Montoya, Bartra, Sergi Roberto, Thiago, Villa and Tello started on the bench.
In the 2nd minute Xavi latched onto a poor clearance and slipped the ball to Pedro, who shot high from what could be called a genuine half-chance. We have been pressing Sevilla backline and goal keeper real hard from the bigining. In the 13th minute Messi got involved in a series of inter-passing between Cesc Fabregas and him, which saw his final shot saved by palop. In the 19th minute we saw the first real threat from sevilla with Rakitic shooting at goal which was saved well by Valdes. In the 26th minute Trackowski scored for Sevilla from a brilliant counter-attack but the defending on the move was really bad. First Song missed a challenge in midfield and since he was suddenly that upfront we looked stretched in the defense. In the 28th minute an absolutely brilliant block denied Messi the equaliser. In the 37th minute Negredo cut back inside and tried to curl the ball into the far corner, and it only just missed the target. The first half ended with Sevilla dominating the attacking chances towards the end. We seemed a bit deflated after the goal. The situation was looking bleak because of our history as we haven't managed to com back from behind against Sevilla for a long time.
The second half started in disaster with Busquets making the mistake and we Song failed to make a proper challenge when Negredo was put through, who made no mistake with the finish(actually it was a classy chip over teh keeper). In the 50th minute Alba send in a great cross which found Pedro on the right, whose thundering volley was cleared off the line by Sevilla defense. In the 53rd minute Fabregas pulled one back for Barca after a brilliant move by Messi, pedro and Cesc. Messi played a brilliant ball to Pedro who cushioned it back to Cesc who finished into far bottom corner from the edge of the box. In the 57th minute Alexis dragged his shot wide off the near post, after Cesc played the ball to him. In the 61st minute Palop pulled a great save to deny Messi scoring from a free kick. In the 70th minute Tito Vilanova made the first change of the match - Tello on for Alexis. In the 72nd minute Medel was sent off for kind of head butting cesc Fabregas. There was contact but I though Fabregas made the most of it, but still you are not allowed to do that. In the 75th minute Thiago came in for Busquets. In the 79th minute Tito threw in the last throw of the dice by taking off Alves and brought in Villa. In the 89th minute Cesc Fabregas scored the equaliser after Messi put him through and he opened his body and scored the equaliser. There was definitely a handball by Thiago in the build up of teh goal, the referee waved play on because it happened on his blind side. In the 3rd minute of stoppage time, David Villa scored after a brilliant one-two with Messi, but boy that finish was something we missed last season.
As I wrote in the preview, this was a much tougher match than we faced till this season. Sevilla was very organised and was quick on counter attack. But what was more worrying is that their two goals came from mistakes from our defense. The first goal was all Alves fault as he never closed down the scorer instead kind of kept a distance. Busquets was at fault for the second one and may be Song also should have done better. But what I was impressed most was the way Tito reacted to the scoreline. He threw the kitchen sink at it. His decision to take off Busquets and Ales and bring on Thiago and Alves played a huge role in turning around the match. Cesc fabregas looked relieved very much after scoring two goals. Villa looks like is specializing this season in scoring goal from the bench and the icing on the cake was the brillaint assist by Messi. His finish showed what we were missing in the box this and last season - someone who shoot at the goal at ever oppurtunity.
