Bate player, Filippe described this Barca team as made of outer space creatures and definitely Barcelona produced a display to honour that compliment. FC Barcelona won their first match of this year's Champions League season with a 5-0 result at the Dynamo stadium. This is our first away victory in all official matches till now. Two Goals from Messi, one each from Pedro and villa, and an own goal gave Barca an easy victory in Belarus. Those goals from Messi take him to the second top scorer for Barca in UEFA Champions League. Usually any match will have excitement about what line-up is going to feature. But with Guardiola this season that initial excitement has shifted about the formation that's going to line up. Having chosen 3-4-3 for majority of the matches this season, Guardiola decided to use the trusted 4-3-3 in the Dynamo stadium. We had Valdes in Goal; Puyol, Abidal, Mascherano and Alves in defense. Keita, Xavi and Thiago formed the midfield three. Pedro, Messi and Villas formed the attacking trio.
The atmosphere was loud and exciting from the begining. I have never heard this much noise in any of our former European opponents. In the 6th minute Thiago Alcantara tried to curl the ball from outside the box into the net, but it was a bit close to the keeper for his liking. Bate was doing the sensible thing by keeping the formation narrow and tight especially in and around the box, and trying to catch Barca on the counter. As a result we were struggling to get any moves into the box. But in the 19th minute we broke their grit through an own goal . Alves send in a great cross into the far post, the defense failed to deal with it and Lionel Messi was there to pressure the own goal. In the 22nd minute Pedro made it 2-0 when he headed in lofted ball from Villa. In the 38th minute scored the third for Barca after he latched onto the mistake from the keeper.
Bate was struggling throughout the first half , they looked better in teh start of second half as Barca moved to a gear down as far as pressing and rhythm were concerned. In the 55th minute Messi scored his second of the night after great link up with Alves and a hell off a finish. In the 59th minute Messi put Abidal through on the left with a brilliant ball but Abidal's shot was saved by the keeper. GUardiola took off Xavi and brought in Cesc immediately and a minute after brought in Adriano for Abidal. In 90th minute Villa completed teh Manita with a well taken goal after the defender gave the ball away to Villa and put him through on goal.
This match was billed as a Giant vs Minow clash, and definitely lived up to that billing. In the first 20 minutes it felt that Barca will struggle to break the defense with Bate players crowding in the box. But once broken, it was a stroll in the park for Barca. Once again Lionel Messi has been teh star of the show scoring twice. Right now he is sitting at two goals and one assists from two matches in Champions League. It was an efficient performance and the most important part is that we won our first away game of teh season. Yes, I know it's Bate Borisov but still isn't it a good feeling to finally get that win.
